The second exhibit takes place from September 11th - November 2nd.

Last night I sat and listened to two of my friends speak about their art.
They are both unbelievably talented artists. Very different from each other, yet alike in the sense that they are both perfectionists who say that they are never actually satisfied with their work. If only they could see what we see...

I smiled to myself, that used to be me.
I used to work on the same illustration for hours and hours,
day after day seeking perfection, never finding the inner satisfaction I was seeking.

How different I am now. How much I have changed.

Now I'm working with fallen trees, rocks & rusty metals.
I embrace all of their imperfections.
Every crack and scratch and dent.
The rougher the better.
Interesting and raw, like our true selves.

Certainly expressions more than they are masterpieces, that I would never deny -
but I'm trying to get a message across here!

I'm fighting against this craving for perfection that our generation seems to be obsessed with.

Beautiful women taking a knife to themselves to make their breasts & lips larger, their noses & thighs smaller.
People longing for the perfect house, the perfect car and the perfect designer bag.
Losing so much as they try to achieve this notion of perfection that just does not exist.

Perfection is knowing who you really are deep inside and embracing it.
It is being fearless & never doubting.
It is sharing your uniqueness with others, not striving to become something different.

Deep down we are all already perfect.

The simplicity of a stone

In this crazy word of 2009, where we seem to over complicate everything,
there is solace to be found in the simplicity of a stone.

You hold it in your hand and you feel the ancient strength and the wisdom hidden inside, connecting you to the Earth.

Lifetimes of change and weathered storms transformed it into the what it is today.

It is not a mass manufactured duplicate.
It is unique, a one-of-a-kind, just like you and I.

The stone will continue to be - lifetimes after we are no more,
sharing our secrets with future generations perhaps?

If that stone could speak, I have a feeling that it will laugh and tell us to quit making everything so complicated!

Our lifetimes are short, how silly to waste the precious time we have
filled with worry and stress.

It's time to get back to basics.
To breathe & relax and trust.
To allow our fears to subside into the background and to tune in to our intuition.

2009 Annual Art + Technology Exhibition

and The BurghBot Project

The Pittsburgh Technology Council's Art and Technology Initiative invites you to join us for the opening of the 2009 Annual Art and Technology Exhibition and the BurghBot Project. To celebrate the synergy that exists between the art and tech communities in Pittsburgh, the Council is partnering with the James Gallery and CREATE Lab to create this one-of-a-kind exhibition.

EXHIBITION DETAILS:
The 2009 Art and Technology Exhibition features more than 50 pieces of artwork in all media, by 37 regional artists throughout the summer.

Juried by Paul Cicozi of the James Gallery, the Pittsburgh Technology Council and CREATE Lab, the James Gallery will host the award winning artists in a winner’s exhibition this fall. THE BURGHBOT PROJECT: The first ever event of its kind, The BurghBot project showcases the robotic artwork of ten East Coast artists, operating at a true intersection of art and technology. Each artist has created a unique interactive, artistic adaptation of CREATE Lab’s robotic frameworks.
